Taj, simply beautiful

Taj Mahal- The Poetry in white Marble among the new seven wonders of the world.

Every single gaze at it makes me fall in love - well is love really blind? not in the case of the architectural poetry Taj Mahal. We often look for purple proses and other tongue twisting words from the thesaurus to describe the stupendous beauty of Taj, but somewhere deep inside our hearts we know that it is not needed, because no true beauty can be captured in words, it is only in the eyes of the beholders that the true meaning of beauty buds and grows.

India, being the proud possessor of this architectural marvel has always enjoyed a notable position in the tourism industry of the world. The monument has always lured passionate lovers, travel buffs, greats poets both from India and abroad towards itself. The great grand Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The mausoleum is located in the historical city of Agra. It took twenty long years in its completion with the help of 40,000 elephants and 20,000 workers. There are four tapering minarets of Taj Mahal and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri is said to be the principal designer of the monument in white marble. There is a line of symmetry through the centre of the tomb from top to bottom.

Said to be one of the finest example of the Mughal architecture, Taj Mahal is a blend of Persian, Turkish, Indian and Islamic architectural styles. The central dome is about 213 feet in height and the four associated minarets are 162.5 feet each. It costed around 50 million rupees in the overall building of the Taj Mahal. It was in the year 1983 that Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also participating in the contest of World's new seven wonders which is scheduled on 7th of July this year. All the best Taj! Because we Indians know you would definitely make it, because you were beautiful then and you are beautiful now.

Figures of marble, aloof, near a river
Empress asleep, remembered forever
Living memorial to Mumtaz Mahal
Yet lives the secret of the Taj Mahal............

I agree when you say that true beauty cannot be described in words. Taj Mahal is one such beauty and I,alongwith number of other Indians, genuinely wish that this beauty finds a place in the list of seven wonders of the world.

Hi, Deepika! I have come across with a few people who don't actually agree with the Taj being one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

Why is it so? Please share your views.

Replica of Taj Mahal is one of the most selling items in Agra. Going back home without it like missing out something really precious.

Hello Vyom, indeed a thought provoking question. well a/c to me every piece of marble used in the making of Taj reminds me of the great architects of that era and most of all the hard work of the labourers.
